General description: Straight
grained, rather course textured, with
a prominent growth ring figure and
“on-resinous. The heartwood shows
considerable color variation when
fresh, from a dark chocolate-brown
to a salmon pink color, perhaps
variegated, maturing down to a
reddish-brown and, in time, to
silver-grey.
Working Properties: The wood
works readily with hand and machine
tools, with little blunting effect on
cutters. Nailing properties arc good
(hot-dipped galvanized or copper nails
should be used). It screws well and
takes stain and polish satisfactorily.
Uses: Glasshouses and shed
construction, shingles, interior
finishing, Exterior boarding, poles,
posts and
fences.
