
General description: The wide
sapwood is preferred to the heartwood
and is sold as Hickory. Mostly
straight grained but sometimes wavy or
irregular, with a course texture.
Working Properties: There is a
moderate to severe blunting effect on
cutters and a reduction to 20% is
required for planning or moulding
irregular grain. Pre-drill for
nailing, gluing is satisfactory; it
can be
stained and polished to a good finish.
Uses: Wheelwrights work, chair
making, ladder rungs, tool handles,
sports goods and drum sticks.
