General description: The
heartwood is medium dark brown in
color but not as dark as American
Black
Walnut, which it otherwise resembles.
It is straight grained with a course
but soft texture.
Working Properties: It is
easily worked with both hand and power
tools. There is little resistance to
cutting edges, which must be kept very
sharp because of the softness of the
wood. It nails, screws and
glues well and can be stained and
brought to an excellent finish.
Uses: High-class joinery,
interiors for boats, and furniture. It
is an excellent carving wood and is
often
used as a substitute for American
Black Walnut in wall paneling.
