General description: Heartwood is grey-brown, sometimes tinged with red. Generally straight grained
and course but even textured.

Working Properties: There is a moderate blunting effect on tools, but can be worked satisfactorily with
both hand and machine tools. Pre-drilling may be necessary when nailing some boards. It glues, stains and polishes well.

Uses: It is famous as the sports’ ash and is used for all types of sports equipment, bats, oars, bent parts for
boat building, cabinetwork and interior joinery.
